in which he seeks an engagement in the Leichhardt's search Expedition, I have the honor to state, that the application of this Gentleman will be submitted to the Commander of the party whenever he is appointed, and that I have informed Mr O'Reilly accordingly.

O'Reilly was not appointed to the expedition; no written communication by M to him has been found.
