Office of Lands & survey
Melbourne, 28th Feby 1865.
Dear Sir,
I beg to acknowledge receipt of your favor of the 21st instant,
and to thank you for the valuable suggestions conveyed therein which I will at once
carry out as far as practicable.
1
Letter not found. J. Lewis to M, 20 February 1865, asked for advice on the treatment of two species of
Araucaria.
I shall be exceedingly glad if on some day during the next month (March) you will
meet me in order to make a formal inspection of the plants in the public parks vested
in the Board of Land and Works, and that you may subsequently favor the Board with
advice with regard to the future treatment of the plants.
2
No report of any formal inspection has been found.
I would mention that I carefully conformed to the verbal directions you formerly gave
me with regard to the treatment of the Pinus Insignis, — and I am happy to state that
the growth of the few of those plants placed in the Fitzroy Garden and the Flagstaff
Reserve, has been unprecedentedly vigorous.
The fish in Fitzroy Garden are nearly all of a black or grey color. I will, however,
endeavour in the course of a few days to have some of them caught for His Excellency.
3
No written request for supplying fish for the Governor has been found at this period..
I remain,
My dear Sir,
Yours very truly,
C. Hodgkinson
