Es gereicht mir, edler Herr, zur Freude, dass ich Ihnen die beabsichtigte Absendung einer bereitstehenden Kiste Algen ankündigen kann. Alle Arten sind von der Port Phillip Bucht, aber leider habe ich aus Zeitmangel nur wenig Exemplare auf Papier aufziehen können. Indessen ist die Kiste sehr gross, so dass Sie mehrere Tausend Exemplare aus dem an der Luft einfach getrockneten Material werden präpariren lassen können. Wahrscheinlich wird die Kiste nächsten Monat mit dem Great Britain an Sie abgesandt werden u jedenfalls bis London frankirt sein, von wo aus meine Agenten sie spediren werden. Vielleicht sind Sie so gut von dort aus die erwachsenden Unkosten des Transportes zu tragen.

Sollten Sie auf solche unpräparirte Sendungen werth legen, so werde ich selbige massenweis folgen lassen. Haben Sie, ohne dass es in Ihre kostbare Zeit eingreift, die Gelegenheit ein paar Algen abzugeben, so würden solche, aus Ihren Händen, eine dauernde Zierde unserer Staats-Sammlung werden.

Ich wage ein paar Worte über das gesicherte Unternehmen der Damen, Leichhardt aufsuchen zu lassen beizufügen. In den edlen Herzen der tieffühlenden Skandinavier wird der Ruf nicht theilnahmlos verhallen. Vielleicht sind Sie ein freundlicher Fürsprecher des

Sache, die wohl die Aufmerksamkeit der ganzen Welt als auf neue u romantische Art gefördert u als philanthropisch auf sich ziehen wird.

Je mehr die Damen von Europa aus ermuthigt werden, je mehr wird das Unternehmen hier sowohl von Seiten der Regierung als der Ansiedler unterstützt werden.

Darf ich Sie bitten, einige der überzähligen Algen an die Herren Professor Anderson u Areschoug abgeben zu wollen?

It gives me pleasure, noble Sir, that I am able to announce the intended dispatch of a case of algae now standing in readiness. All the species are from Port Phillip Bay, but due to lack of time I have been able to mount only few specimens on paper. However, the case is very large, so that you will be able to have several thousand specimens prepared from the simply air-dried material. The case will probably be dispatched to you next month by the Great Britain

and will certainly be freight paid as far as London, whence my agents will forward it. Perhaps you will be so kind as to meet the expense arising from the transport from there. If such unprepared consignments should be of value to you, I shall follow up with more in large quantities. If, without intruding too much into your precious time, you have occasion to give away a few algae, they would, coming from your hands, become a permanent ornament of our State collections.

I take the liberty to enclose a few words about the secured undertaking of the ladies to have a search made for Leichhardt.

Ladies' Leichhardt Search Expedition, 1865-6.

This call will not sound in vain without arousing sympathy in the noble hearts of the profoundly feeling Scandinavians. Perhaps you will be a kind advocate for the enterprise, that is philanthropic and will attract the attention of the whole world in a new and romantic way.

The more the ladies are encouraged from Europe, the more the endeavour will be supported here by the Government as well as by the settlers.

May I ask you, to pass on some of the surplus algae to Professors Anderson
