editorial addition.
Sir
I have the honor by direction of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society to request
your attendance to the following facts.
Last July the Council remitted through the agency of Messrs Grice Sumner & Co. a sum
of money amounting to £250 to Messrs Gillanders Arbuthnot & Co of Calcutta requesting
that firm to honor the drafts of Baboo Rajendro Mullich to that amount.

See report of Council meeting held on 19 July 1864,
Argus
, 21 July 1864, p. 6.
By the same mail a letter was sent to Rajendro Mullich asking him to operate for the
Society in India and procure to the extent of £250 specimens of the following birds
M[onal] Kaleege,
Tragopans & Persian pheasants, large Himalayan partridges, [Florican] Bustards and
Rock pigeons.

Rajah Rajendro Mullich was an honorary member of the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria
and maintained an extensive private menagerie in Calcutta; see Chatterjee (1917),
p. 32.
From various sources which it is not perhaps necessary to trouble you with the Baboo
is not able to comply with the request of the Council and the money is now lying idle
in the hands of Messrs Gillanders Arbuthnot & Co at Calcutta.
Under these circumstances the Council thought that you might be enabled to help them
by requesting some one of your numerous correspondents to act in the room of Rajendro
Mullich and feeling assured that if it be in your power to aid them you will gladly
so do they have directed me to make application to you.
Messrs Gillanders & Co will undertake the shipping portion of this business and will
of course honor your correspondents drafts upon them upon receiving the instructions
of the Council so to do such instructions will be sent as soon as the Council learn
from you the name of the gentleman to whom you have applied.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your most Obedt Servant
Geo Sprigg
