Ihre freundliche Zuschrift vom 24. Aug. erreichte mich erst vor wenigen Tagen und bereitete mir eine freudige Überraschung; dann fühle ich mich besonders geehrt mit einem Gelehrten wie Sie, dessen Name mir so lange ruhmvoll vorschwebte in unmittelbare Verbindung zu treten. Lassen Sie mich nun auch im Besondern meinen tief gefühlten Dank aussprechen für die mir erwiesene Ehre und Güte, mir in der schönen physiographischen Gesellschaft Ihrer Stadt einen Sitz angewiesen zu haben, eine Auszeichnung, für die ich um so dankbarer verpflichtet bleibe, als ich Ihrem schönen Vereine bisher in keiner Weise nützlich war. Wenn mich das Diplom und die selbigem so grossmüthig zugesellten Schriften erreichen, werde ich meinen Dank an die Gesellschaft formell aussprechen.
Entnehmen Sie auch für Ihre Güte das Museum meiner Anstalt zu bereichern meinen innigen Dank, so wie für die angekündigte Übersendung Ihrer werthvollen Schriften
Es bedarf nicht der Versicherung, dass ich freudig den Wünschen Ihrer wissenschaftlichen Freunde dort entsprechen werde und gern Ihnen im Besonderen Beiträge für Ihre Sammlungen liefern werde. Es liegen bereits einige Algen für Sie bereit, und sobald sich das Material für eine ordentliche Sendung für Sie, Prof. Areschoug u Prof Anderson angesammelt hat soll eine Kiste an Sie abgehen, die dann auch gleichfalls einige neuere Werke, wie den 4 Band der Fragmenta phytographiae Australiae, Vegetation of the Chatham Islands u einen Band mit etwa 60 Platten Illustrationen der Pflanzen Victorias einschliessen wird.
Den Fortschritt Ihres grossen Algenwerkes verfolge ich mit erregter Aufmerksamkeit, u. hoffentlich werde ich Ihnen noch Materialien für dasselbe liefern können.

I also feel specially honoured to enter into direct correspondence with a savant such as you, whose honoured name has been familiar to me for a long time. And now permit me to express my deeply felt gratitude in particular for having done me the honour and kindness to give me a seat in the fine Physiographic Society of your city, a distinction for which I remain all the more gratefully indebted, as so far I have been of no benefit whatever to your beautiful Society. When the certificate and the publications so generously enclosed with it reach me, I shall formally express my thanks to the Society.

Accept my thanks also for your kindness in having enriched the museum of my institute, as well as for the announced transmission of your valuable publications.
It does not require my assurance that I shall be happy to meet the wishes of your scientific friends there, and to supply you in particular with contributions for your collections. Some algae are already lying in readiness for you, and as soon as enough material has been accumulated for a proper transmission for you, Professor Areschoug and Professor Andersson, a case will be dispatched to you, and some of my more recent works shall also be enclosed such as the 4th volume of my Fragmenta phytographiae Australiae,
