MS is on a file cover dated 20 September headed: ‘Col. Anderson V.V.R. [Victorian Volunteer Regiment] Applies for permission to hold a Concert in the Botanic Gardens on Nov. 15th post?' Anderson’s letter has not been found. It was referred to M o n 22 September, and his reply given here was endorsed ‘approved’ by the Chief Secretary, J. McCulloch, on the same day.
I beg to recommend, that the Concession sought by the Colonel commanding the Volunteers may be granted, but avail myself of this occasion to suggest for the consideration of the hon. the Chief Secretary, whether the Band should not be invited to favor during the favorable season occasionally the public on Saturday afternoons with a free Concert, especially (if I am not under a wrong impression) as the Band is mainly supported out of the revenue of the state.
