On 20 September 1864 the Under Secretary, J. Moore, minuted: 'As Dr Mueller requires
£30 for purchase of food for the birds etc in the Gardens I wish to know whether the
Govt Storekeeper can allow that amount to be cancelled under any of the authorities
issued to him out of the vote'. The same day, J. M. Spence, the Government Storekeeper,
responded: 'Judging from the present expenditure the amount, £30 can be spared from
authority No 336. — Please inform me when the cancellation shall have been effected.'
On 11 October 1864, J. Moore minuted that 'C.S. 336 has been cancelled accordingly
to the amount of £30'. Spence 'Noted and returned' the file on 17 October 1864.
