The approach from Jolimont to the zoological Ground is quite impassable for several
month in the year. As any path on the Jolimont road itself would be destroyed by Cattle,
it would be best to establish a line of foothpath diagonally from the railway to the
western gate of the zoological Ground, for which the following outlay would be incurred

For the Jollimont path 80 Iron treeguards could be furnished from the botanic Garden
and thus the path be lined with an avenue, if £20. -. - were devoted for the conveyance
of the guards & their reconstruction.

M's letter was read at a meeting of the Melbourne City Council's Health Committee
on 16 August 1864: 'Town Clerk instructed to acknowledge the receipt of the letter
and thank Dr Mueller for his suggestions but stating that the committee are not prepared
at present to entertain the subject' (Unit 1, VPRS 4039, Public Record Office, Victoria).
No letter of acknowledgment has been found.
