Town Clerks Office,
Town Hall,
Melbourne June 21st 1864
Dear Sir
I regret that from the press of business I have been unable sooner to address you
officially in reference to your letter to Dr Eades of the 20th ultimo offering to
plant a row of trees between the footbridge of the Botanical Gardens, and the Railway,
if the Corporation would furnish some £30 to defray the costs of labor.
1
M's letter to Eades was read at a meeting of the Melbourne City Council's Health Committee
on 25 May 1864: 'Chairman instructed to Report to council recommending that the offer
of Dr Mueller be accepted with thanks and that a sum of £30 be appropriated to defray the cost of planting' (Unit 1, VPRS 4039, Public Record Office, Victoria).
I have now the honor to inform you that the Health Committee, having reported upon
the subject to the City Council, that body has directed me to thank you in its name
and to state that it has accepted your proposal and appropriated a sum of £30 for
the purpose.
