Sir
In reply to your letter dated April 27th,
1
G. Sprigg to M, 27 April 1864 (in this edition as 64-04-27b), refers to some of the matters discussed here.
I have the honor to inform you, that the Trustees approve of the intentions of the Council of the Acclimation Society to arrange for ploughing & fencing certain patches of land in the Park not exceeding ½ acre each, with the view of raising copses and the Trustees suggest that this should be effected in such places as to present vistas thereby and so as not to obstruct the views in important directions.
In reference to the Council's intention to have the ground trenched around the Eucalyptus of the Park, the Trustees see no objection, but wish nevertheless to point out, that it might be preferable wherever the clay should prove near the surface to render the soil more open to the ingress of water by picking. Simultanously

the Trustees deem it advisable that some seats should be placed in the Park. The Trustees approve of the sale of the dead timber at the Park (as far as it can be spared) by tender.
I beg also to submit to the Council a report

from A. Purchas Esq., the result of a deliberation between that gentleman and Mr. R. B. Smyth Esq. in reference to the improvement desirable at the S. W. angle of the Park. The Trustees recommend the report to the carefull attention of the Council and are of opinion that the work concerning the rough channelling, the supply of a new gate, the repair of the old fence and of the road deserves precedence to that of the new fencing.
The Trustees also wish me to direct the attention of the Council of the A. S. to the desirability of seats being furnished for the convenience of visitors in all the principal parts of the Park.
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient
signed F. Mueller
The Secretary of the Acclimation Society
