Sir,
As a large number of plants (principally pines, californian cypresses, oaks, and elms) will be required during the months of May and June next for the reserves vested in the Board of Land and Works (vizt Albert Park, Richmond Park, Studley Park, Fitzroy Garden, and Flagstaff Hill Garden) the Board of Land and Works will be glad to be apprised, at your earliest convenience what plants you will be then able to supply, and more especially as to the number of plants in pots.
The kinds most urgently needed in pots are Pinus Insignis, Cupressus Lambertiana, and the following varieties of Araucaria — vizt Excelsa, Cunninghamii, and Bidwillii.
I have therefore to request you will be good enough to favour the Board with the desired information as soon as practicable.

M's reply has not been found but is recorded on the same date in the inward correspondence register of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey as: 'In reply states that the best selection of plants at the time available at his nurseries shall be placed at the Asst. Cmrs disposal for the Suburban Parks & Reserves & requests that plants required for such reserves be drawn during May' (No. 3507, unit 9, VPRS 227/P1 inward correspondence register, VA 538 Department of Crown Lands and Survey, Public Record Office, Victoria).
