Sir
In reply to your letter of the 21 of March,
I have the honor to inform you, that the Trustees of the Royal Park have granted to
the Trades Committee the permission to occupy certain grounds at the Park during the
contemplated fete on 21 April next,
provided that due care be taken to prevent fire and damage to trees and property.
To effect satisfactory arrangements for this purpose it will be necessary that the
gentlemen of the Trades Committee communicate early with Mr. George Sprigg the Secretary
of the Acclim. Society for the selection of the sites and for the protection of the
property vested in the Trustees.

The Trades Council fete was not held at Royal Park, but after the procession that finished at 'the Zoological Gardens on the banks of the Yarra" (Age
(Melbourne), 25 April 1864, p. 5), i.e., the North Grounds of the Botanic Gardens where animals had been held
before they were moved to Royal Park earlier in the 1860s.
I have the honor to be
Sir
your obedient
Sign. F. Mueller Hon. Secr. of the Trustees
