MS found with a specimen of Cyathea australis (MEL 2148696). While the letter is incomplete and lacks a signaure, the hand is Moore’s.

By my friend Mr John Reid the bearer who is my partner in a sheep station on the Barcoo I send you a few specimens of the Alsophila which I found on the Bellinger

Barcoo and Bellinger Rivers, NSW.
& which I consider to be quite distinct and undescribed. I find in my herbarium specimens of the same plant from the Logan river

South-east Qld.
collected there by Mr W. Hill In appearance this plant bears a strong resemblance to
Alsophila australis

but differs in the following respect
1st
It is not so robust in habit the stem being more slender & the fronds shorter
2d
In the stem being comparatively smooth & free from the bases of stipes until near the top

In the fronds being quite Glaucous beneath […]
