Melbourne bot, Garden
27/1/64
Sir
I have the honor to solicit, that I may be permitted to present on behalf of the Victorian Government one copy of the still remaining ones of the Flora Australiensis
1
Bentham (1863-78), vol. 1 (1863); vol. 2 was not published until October 1864 (TL2).
to His Excellency Sir Will. Denison, the Acting Governor General of India, for acknowledging by this reciprocate the kindness of sending to us Capt Beddomes valuable work on Ferns.
2
The fascicles of Beddome (1863) were forwarded to M with J. Moore to M, 27 January 1874 (in this edition as 64-01-27d).
I beg also to submit a requisition for your kind consideration for a copy of my own works to be sent to the botanical Society of France & an other copy intended for G. Elph. Dalrymple Esq who has rendered most important services, involving considerable expense, to Mr Dallachy in his capacity as collector of the botanic Garden in the unsettled districts of Queensland.
3
The specific works M requested are not known but were probably the bound botanical works issued by the Government Printer up to that date: B60.02.04, B62.02.03, B62.03.03, B63.04.06. However, before this letter was written, B62.02.04 and B62.02.03 had been reviewed in Bulletin de la Société B otanique de France, vol. 9 (1862), Revue Bibliographique p. 676, as was B62.03.03 in Vol. 10 (1863), Revue Bibliographique, p. 621.
Perhaps I may be allowed to add also a copy of the flora Australiensis for the latter Gentleman
4
Approval for M's requests was minuted to his letter and it was forwarded to the Government Printer.
I have the honor to be
Sir,
your most obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller.
The honorable the Chief Secretary
