Sir
I have the honor to inform you, that the printing of the second volume of the Universal
work on Australian plants will commence in the month of march next and I would consequently
solicit, that the sum of £100.- .- which is as a subsidy available for this publication may be transmitted to the Agent
General of Victoria at London and be thus rendered available to G. Bentham Esq, the
President of the Linnean Society.
1
Bentham (1863-78), vol. 2, was issued on 3 October 1864 (TL2). M had believed that the sum had previously been transmitted but found on enquiry that it had not been (M to G. Bentham, 25 January 1864). Approval for M's request was minuted to this letter.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient & humble servant
