Letter not found; item is an entry in the minutes of a meeting of the Council of the Royal Society of Tasmania held on 5 January 1864. The letter is dated to late December 1863, as the latest likely date it could have been written to be received in time for the meeting. The Royal Society received five varieties of cotton seed from M on 26 December 1863 (Report of the Royal Society of Tasmania for the Year 1863 (1864), p. 33).
