I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated 27. Oct.
accompanied by a copy of a despatch from his Grace the Duke of Newcastle to his Excellency
the Governor and by copies of letters in reference to the proposed exchange of the
Abelian for the Brucean Meteorite, claimed by the British Museum.

Immediately after the receipt of these documents I communicated with Professor M'Coy,
the Director of the Melbourne Museum and requested an early reply to His Excellency's
enquiry, whether the authorities of our museum are prepared to give up the large Meteorite
at present retained at the University on condition of receiving the one which is to
be sent to his Excellency.
