My dear Dr Hooker.

Mr Benjamin Loewy, who is the bearer of these lines, has desired me to solicit for him your kind interest & counsels, which he is anxious to enjoy whilst staying in London, whence he proceeds with a view of extending his knowledge of applied mathematical & physical sciences.

Mr Loewy has been engaged for a series of years as an Assistant at the meteorologic & magnetic observatory of this city and is deserving of any favor you may in your influence bestow on him to facilitate his objects.

I have furnished this Gentleman with an introductory note to General Sabine, but your kind influence would readily secure for him also kind reception & advise from other men of science in Britain.
