Sir
I have the honor to solicit, that you will be pleased to sanction the expenditure
of five hundred thirty pounds Sterling (£530.- .-) being the balance available for
wages from the vote of this establishment for the current year.
I further beg to request, that twenty pounds Sterling (£20.- .-) available yet for
travelling expenses may also be placed at my disposal.

M had previously requested the £20 for travelling expenses and had apparently agreed
to defer seeking the sum until needed (M to J. McCulloch, 3 July 1863, and notes thereto). Approval of M's requests was minuted to this letter.
I have the honor to be
Sir,
your most obedient & humble servant
Ferd. Mueller.
The honorable the Chief Secretary
