[Dr. F. Mueller, director of the Melbourne botanical and zoological garden, responding
to a request for information addressed to him on a certain Australian wheat that cannot
be beaten down,
asserts that there is no variety of wheat in Australia possessing this property,
and that the quality that caused the seed of this wheat to be desired is due solely
to the excellent nature of the soil of the localities where it is cultivated. Our
eminent honorary member conveys a letter from M. Matson,
secretary of the Society of Agriculture,
confirming his opinion.]
