Sir
Herewith I have the honor to [forward] you a list
of all animals & birds in the possession of the Society on the 1st July 1863 in order
that it may be laid before the Trustees.

I have most respectfully to apologise for not having returned a list quarterly according
to your instructions fowd
to me under date of April 11th 1862
but the simple fact is that until I was reminded of it the other day by one of the
Trustees this instruction had been entirely overlooked.

The next return shall be made up on October 1st.

No subsequent communication from Sprigg incorporating such a return has been found, and no such
return was reported to the Royal Park Trustees. There is a list in the
Annual Report o
f
the Acclimatisatiion Society of Victoria,
no. 2,1863, p. 39, but it does not distinguish between the locations at which the
stock were held, whether Royal Park, the Botanic Garden or Phillip Island.

Lapsus
by Sprigg? M was Honarary Secretary to the Royal Park Trustees, the capacity in which he wrote to Sprigg in April.
