I have been directed by the Council of the City of Melbourne to do myself the honor to transmit to you their sincere thanks for the able and valuable assistance which you were so good as to render to them on the occasion of the recent festivities in the City in honor of the marriage of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.

Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, was married to Princess Alexandra of Denmark on 10 March 1863; it was celebrated in Melbourne on 19 May 1863, see report in Argus, 20 May 1863, p. 4 ff. M to E. FitzGibbon, 23 June 1863, is his response.
