If the adopted regulations render it necessary to substitute for the name of that
Gentleman one who is resident in Victoria, I shall not fail to do so, whenever your
intimation on this subject will reach me.

On 4 June 1863 the Under Secretary, J. Moore, referred M's letter to the Treasurer
for his opinion. The Under Treasurer, E. Symonds, replied on 16 June: 'Dr Mueller originally gave three sureties As Drs
Howitt and Wilkie are still in the colony and Capt Clarke in receipt of a pension
from it, there appears to be no reason to disturb existing arrangements'. M to J. O'Shanassy, 1 May 1858 (in this edition as 58-05-01a), reports the original arrangements for M, the Clerk (Carl Wilhelmi) and the Curator (John Dallachy).
