At a meeting of the Trustees, 5 May 1863, it was 'Resolved that a letter be written to Dr Mueller requesting the favor of any plants he can spare for the Cemetery, also stating that the Trustees would esteem it a favor if he could inspect the plantations any day convenient to him' (Minute book 1, Melbourne General Cemetery).
Sir,
I have the honor by direction of the Trustees of the Melbourne Genl. Cemetery to request that you will be pleased to let them have any plants of trees or shrubs, or seeds for the purpose of beautifying the Cemetery.
I am also requested to state that the Trustees would esteem it a favor (if not encroaching too much upon your valuable time) if you could pay a visit to the Cemetery during the present month, and give them the benefit of your large experience in any suggestions you may think desirable to make after such visit.
