During their meeting of 6 March 1863 the Trustees of the Royal Park agreed to transfer
to Sprigg the authority formerly vested in William Smith for the surveillance of the
Park and directed M to send Sprigg the necessary letter of authority (A345, p. 123).

I have the honor to inform you, that at a meeting of the Trustees of the Royal Park
held this day you have been entrusted (until further notice and without additional
renumeration) with the duty of acting as Ranger of the Royal Park, and you are thereby
empowered to take legal proceedings on behalf of the trustees against any persons,
who may infringe on the rules established under the sanction of the trustees of the
Royal Park.
