Monsieur le Président,

C'est pour moi un devoir des plus agréables d'exprimer à Votre Excellence mes sincères remerciments pour l'interèt si bienveillant avec lequel vous avez honoré et secondé les efforts de la jeune Société d'acclimatation de notre colonie. Cet intérèt nous honore d'autant plus, que la position élevée qui vous a été faite si justement et les occupations si importantes auxquelles sont dus tous vos instants, ne nous privent pas de votre précieuse coopération. Je dois aussi reconnaître, au nom de mes collègues, les obligations que nous avons contractées envers vous pour les présents dont vous avez enrichi nos collections, et pour la bonté avec laquelle vous avez accepté les modestes additions que nous avons pu faire aux recherches de la Société impériale d'acclimatation.

Les membres du conseil de la Société de Melbourne me chargent en particulier de vous offrir l'expression de leur très-vive reconnaissance pour le magnifique don de Chèvres d'Angora que vous nous avez fait. Nous avons pris des mesures spéciales pour répondre à votre libéralité continuelle par l'envoi de tous les animaux que nous pourrons nous procurer.

Grâce à la généreuse intervention du capitaine Ridgers du Sussex, je vous expédie 2 jeunes Emeusx, 2 Tourterelles du Murray représentant deux espèces, 3 Porphyrio melanotus, 2 Dacelo gigantea, et un Caprimulgus lati-humeralis.

Dans l'espérance que Votre Excellence voudra bien nous conserver sa bienveillance et disposer sans réserve de nos services, je vous prie d'agréer, etc.

It is for me a most agreeable duty to express to Your Excellency my sincere thanks for the very friendly interest with which you have honoured and supported the efforts of our colony's young acclimatization Society. That interest honours us all the more, since the high position so justly granted to you and the very important activities to which all your time is committed do not deprive us of your precious co-operation. I must also acknowledge, in the name of my colleagues, the obligations we have contracted towards you for the presents with which you have enriched our collections, and for the indulgence with which you have accepted the modest additions we have been able to make to the research of the Imperial Society of Acclimatization.

Council members of the Melbourne Society charge me in particular to express to you their very lively gratitude for the magnificent donation of Angora Goats that you have made to us.

The gift of the goats had been announced in a letter from Edward Wilson, read at the meeting of the Council of the Society held on 17 February 1863 (Age, 19 February 1863, p. 5); also see E. Drouyn de Lhuys to M, 10 January 1863 (in this edition as 63-01-10a).

We have taken special measures to respond to your continual generosity by sending all the animals we can procure.

Thanks to the generous intervention of Captain Ridgers of the Sussex, I am sending you 2 young Emus, 2 Turtle-doves from the Murray representing two species, 3 Porphyrio melanotus, 2 Dacelo gigantea and one Caprimulgus lati-humeralis.
