editorial addition.
Sir
Herewith I have the honor to hand you the letters kindly laid by you before the Council of the Acclimatisation Society. I will reply to Mr Butler although I am rather puzzled to know in what terms to do so

On 24 December 1862, Sprigg wrote to H. L. Butler of Calcutta regarding his complaint about the amount to be paid per animal and bird delivered to the keeper on A. H. Badger. 'Dr Mueller has also handed me a list of birds you require many of which are natives of Queensland and would be far greater curiosities and fetch far higher prices here than they would in Calcutta. It is not often that we can get our own native birds in a fit state to send away …' (VPRS 2225, unit 2, pp. 209-10, Public Record Office, Victoria).
By this mail I received through Mr Comyns a letter from Mr Rusden

On 24 December 1862, Sprigg also wrote to G.W. Rusden of Messers Gilman & Co., Shanghai, saying, amongst other things, that the Society did not wish to import Chinese sheep as they preferred more birds, and that his message had been passed on to M (VPRS 2225, unit 2, p. 203, Public Record Office, Victoria).
in which is the following sentence "Will you kindly tell my friend Dr Mueller that I have some grass seeds for him from Japan of two kinds said to be very nutritious I tried to dry some specimens of plants but fear that they have faded so much that they will be useless."
I would venture respectfully to remind you that on the 1st of January it is customary for many Sunday schools to picnic in the Royal Park and it would be well for the Trustees to intimate if there should be any objections to that being done.
I have the honor to be Sir
Your most Obedt Servant
Geo Sprigg
