Letter not found. The text given here is an extract from a copy of the Procès verbal of the assembly of administrative professors of the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle held on 18 November 1862 (Archives Nationales, Paris, F it 3883). The letter is dated to early October 1862 as the latest possible date on which it could have been written in order to be reported to the assembly at its meeting on 18 November.

Mueller, Directeur du jardin botanique et zoologique de Melbourne, récemment nommé Correspondant du Muséum s’écrit pour faire parvenir ses remerciments et l’expression de sa reconnaissance, à l’occasion de sa nomination, et témoigner de son vif désir de contribuer à l’enrichissement des collections du Muséum en satisfaisant le mieux qu’il lui sera possible aux demandes qu’on lui adressera. Les mêmes assurances se trouvent répétées dans une lettre particulière au professeur d’Erpétologie auquel il annonce un nouvel envoi.]
