Letter not found. The text given here is an extract from a copy of the
Procès verbal
of the assembly of administrative professors of the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle held
on 18 November 1862 (Archives Nationales, Paris, F it 3883). The letter is dated to
early October 1862 as the latest possible date on which it could have been written
in order to be reported to the assembly at its meeting on 18 November.
[Dr F. Mueller, Director of the botanical and zoological garden of Melbourne, recently
named Correspondent of the Museum,
writes to record his thanks and appreciation on the occasion of his nomination, and
to attest his lively desire to contribute to the enriching of the Museum’s collections
by satisfying as best he can the requests addressed to him. The same assurances are
repeated in a personal letter to the Professor of Herpetology
to whom he announces a new sending.]
