Monsieur

La Société d'acclimatation de Moscou à reçu l'envoie des animaux qui grâce à Votre coopération bienveillante, lui ont été transmis de la part de la Société Victoria à Melbourne. Cet offre si cher pour la Russie et pour notre Comité fut apprecié avec la plus vive et sincère reconnaissance et, quoique le long trajet a derobé la vie à plusieurs des animaux, leur plus grande partie, saine et sauve, sera neanmoins un des meilleurs ornements du jardin zoologique, dont le projet doit s'effectuer durant cette année, et de la grande exposition des animaux et des plantes, que la Société entreprend de faire au mois d'Avril. Le trajet a fait perir les kasouars, un des walabis.

Les membres de la Société, rassemblés à la session du Comité le 28 Octobre 1862 ont résolu unanimement: De Vous remercier le plus sincerement pour nous avoir prété de si rares exemplaires d'animaux australiens, ce que nous comptons comme meilleure preuve de l'interêt, que Vous portez aux buts de l'acclimatation et aux projets de la Société russe.

De Vous proposer le titre du membre actuel de la Société d'acclimatation de Moscou. Le diplome Vous sera envoyé par la voie diplomatique.

De Vous informer que le Comité et tous les membres en particulier se mettront en devoir de Vous être utiles au service à la Société Victoria. En même temps vos débiteurs profiteront de la première possibilité pour Vous retribuer vos offres, en vous envoyant des animaux russes. Jusqu'à présent les doubles exemplaires des animaux, qui sont à la disposition du jardin zoologique, ne sont pas réduits à la notorieté nécessaire — mais dès que l'organisation du jardin sera accompli — la Direction de la Société ne tardera pas d'exécuter ses promesses; elle s'engage à procurer pour la société Victoria ces animaux avec le plus grand empressement, se réservant le droit d'espérer, que la bienveillance et la participation de la Société à nos buts ne seront pas alterées et que nous aurons encore de nouvelles occasions pour Vous remercier et pour Vous être redevable des progrès de la science et de l'acclimatation en Russie.

The Acclimatization Committee of Moscow

The Acclimatization Society of Moscow has received the consignment of animals which, thanks to your very kind co-operation, has been sent to it by the Victorian Society in Melbourne. This present, so precious for Russia and for our Committee, was welcomed with the most lively and sincere gratitude and, although the long journey cost several of the animals their lives, the majority, safe and sound, will nevertheless be one of the finest ornaments of the zoological garden, the plan of which will be executed this year, and of the great exhibition of animals and plants that the Society plans to hold in April. unanimously resolved: To thank you most sincerely for having given us such rare examples of Australian animals, which we regard as the best proof of the interest you take in the goals of acclimatization and in the projects of the Russian Society.

To offer you the title of active member of the Acclimatization Society of Moscow; the diploma will be sent to you by diplomatic bag.

To inform you that the Committee and each individual member will put themselves under an obligation to be useful to you in the service of the Victorian Society. At the same time we who are in your debt will take the first opportunity to repay your offerings by sending you Russian animals. As yet the duplicate specimens of animals that are at the disposition of the zoological garden are not sufficiently well known — but as soon as the organization of the garden is completed, the Society's Executive will not delay in fulfilling its promises; it undertakes to procure these animals for the Victorian society with the greatest promptness, reserving to itself the hope that the goodwill and the participation of the Society in our objectives will not change and that we shall have further occasions to thank you and to be indebted to you for the progress of science and acclimatization in Russia.
