When M applied on 28 June 1862 to have his land at Bugle Ranges, within the District
of Macclesfield, brought under the provisions of the SA Real Property Act of 1861,
he also 'conveyed upon trust' half an acre at the corner of the property to the District
Council 'for the purpose of erecting a public schoolhouse thereon' (see Transfer of
Title [in this edition as 62-06-28a]). At the meeting of the District Council held on 11 July 1862, it had been determined
that the District Councillors would be the trustees of the land (South Australian weekly chronicle, 19 July 1862, p. 7). At its meeting on 6 October 1862, the District Council received
a letter 'from Dr. F. Mueller, of Melbourne, in answer to a letter from the Council,
wherein they thank him for land presented for Bugle Ranges School' (Adelaide observer, 11 October, p. 3S).
The location of the school land is shown in Fig. 5 of Gemmell (1975), p. 58.
