Letter not found. The text given here is from Bulletin de la Société Impériale Zoologique d'Acclimatation, vol. 10 (1863), p. 73. The report of the meeting of 25 December 1862 included, immediately preceding this extract, a summary of a report in The Field of the acclimatization of the Emu in England. The letter to Ramel is dated to May 1862 as the clipper Lincolnshire 'cleared out' of Melbourne on 27 May ( Argus, 28 May 1862, p. 4) and had arrived in London by 19 August ( Morning post [London], 19 August 1862, p. 7). Ramel appears to have written to the Society in August, expecting that the Linconlnshire would have arrived in, or would soon reach, London.
[To this information that Mr P. Ramel has the kindness to send us from Marseilles, our zealous correspondent adds the following reflections: …
By the letter that reaches me from Colombo, mailbag delayed in the Maldives, I learn that a pair of Gallinula tenebrosa is addressed by Dr Mueller of Melbourne to Mr Sclater, secretary of the London Zoological Gardens, for the Jardin d'acclimatation of the Bois de Boulogne.
It is the Lincolnshire that brings these birds.
They arrived or will arrive very soon.]
