Letter not found. See Age (Melbourne), 19 July 1862, p. 5, in the report of the meeting of the Council of the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria held on 17 July. The letter is dated to May on the basis that this is the latest date it could have been written to arrive in Melbourne in early July (a vessel arriving on 2 July from Mauritius left there on 17 May; 'Shipping intelligence', Argus, 9 July 1862, p. 4).
[A letter was read from Mr Berg, the representative of the French Acclimatisation Society at the Isle of Bourbon, offering to forward anything from that island which the Council might think desirable, in exchange for the native productions of Victoria. This letter was addressed to Dr Mueller, and he was requested to reply to it.
