Letter not found. For the text given here, see Argus, 19 June 1862, p. 4. Dates of arrival of mail from Mauritius, which would have been the route for mail from Bourbon, have not been found, and neither have details of the mail service between Bourbon and Mauritius. However, based on known voyage times between Mauritius and Melbourne, Berg must almost certainly have posted his letter in Bourbon before the end of April.

The report continues: 'M. Berg is the representative of the Société Impériale d'Acclimatation of France at the Isle of Bourbon, and is consequently in a position to be of service to the society. Dr. Mueller was requested to send a suitable reply.' See also G. Sprigg to M, 18 June 1862 (in this edition as 62-06-18a).
