Letter not found. The text given here is from a report of the meeting of the Royal Society of Tasmania held on 6 May 1863, in Mercury (Hobart), 21 May 1862, p. 2. The comment was made during the discussion of a paper on the bird genus Zosterops which, Allport said, 'were very clever in imitating the notes of other birds'.
[Mr. M. ALLPORT said that he had been informed by Dr. Mueller that the native birds were found at Melbourne to imitate the notes of the imported birds.]
