Melbourne bot. Garden,
4. Febr. 1862.
Sir
I have the honor to solicit your permission, that the report of the jurors on the
vegetable productions of the Victorian Exhibition may be printed at Mr Ferres Offices
and be published as an appendix of the Catalogue, which is now under the press.
This valuable document will extend over a few sheets of printing and is replete with
important information on some hitherto uncultivated branches of industry, by which
undoubtedly additional lucrative employment will be found in our colony and valuable
articles be gained for export especially amongst the woods & vegetable oils.

Coates, Osborne & Ashley (1862). The jurors gave especial thanks to 'the learned Government
Botanist of Victoria, for his unvarying kindness and readiness to assist them on every
occasion they have wished to consult him, the Jurors must ever remain indebted beyond
their ability to acknowledge' (p. 61).
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller.
The honorable the Chief Secretary
