MS black-edged; M's sister Bertha Doughty died on 7 September 1861. See also M to
J. Macadam, 29 January 1862.
My dear Sir.
In referring the enclosed note back to you,
I beg to request the favor, that future communications to me from the Exploration
Committee may be made by you direct as the Honorary Secretary.

R. Dickinson to M, 30 January 1862.
I repeat that the original journals, as far as entrusted to me, of Messrs Burke's
and Wills expedition were immediately after the transcript was made, returned by me
to the Committee, thus the authentic documents being available for official use.
Should against my expectations this second demand have been made on me under your
authority, I beg to request, that you will have the goodness of calling the Exploration
Committee together for the special purpose of early discussing the propriety of making
these calls,
against which in the meanwhile I enter my solemn & emphatical protest.

No such meeting was called.
Obediently
yours
Ferd. Mueller
Dr John Macadam
