[Mr. Green, the postmaster at Hay, has forwarded specimens from this locality to Professor Müeller, who pronounces them to be genuine nardoo, similar to that eaten by the unfortunate explorers.

Robert O'Hara Burke, William John Wills and John King (1832-1872) when they had exhausted the food supplies left for them at Cooper's Creek after returning from the Gulf of Carpentaria, ate ground sporocarps of Marsilea drummondi; only King survived to be rescued. See also B61.04.03.
