MS is an annotation by M on a letter from T. McDonough Foster, Superintendent at the Police Office, Swan Hill, Vic, to Macadam, 7 October 1861, reporting that a black pony had been left in his charge by 'a Mr McDonogh one of Mr Burke's party' [i.e. Thomas McDonough, a member of the Burke and Wills Exploring Expedition] 'he being on his way to Town from the Darling', and also that at Alfred Howitt's request he had bought him a roan mare for £30. Macadam presumably passed the letter to M for comment.
Mr Inspector Foster is requested to sell the black Pony and to remit the proceeds and is asked for further information respecting Mr Howitts horse.
