Red. d. Bonpl.' [The news to which Dr Mueller refers here is about the disastrous outcome of Burke’s expedition to the interior of Australia on p. 330. Editor of Bonplandia ]. The news item on p. 330 is a report from Melbourne dated 20 July 1861 reporting the non-return of Robert O'Hara Burke and his companions to Cooper's Creek before the camp was vacated and a relief expedition led by Alfred Howitt despatched.
Ihr etc.
Dr. Ferd. Müller.
Melbourne, 25 July 1861.
As a botanist I should like to give you the interesting news that recently the families of the and have been found in the east of Australia for the first time, the latter in a species of Canarium.

M described australianum in B62.04.01, p. 15, under Burseraceae; Amyridaceae is assimilated to Burseraceae in Endlicher's system (see Endlicher (1836-40), p. 1135).
As a geographer I could inform you of much that is new, in part terrible enough, however, time does not permit it now, also I have already sent some information to Dr Petermann.
Your etc.
Dr. Ferd. Mueller.
