The correspondent is Dr. George Bennett, d. 1893. M probably enclosed Bennett's letter
with the letter he wrote to William Hooker on 24 August 1861 (in this edition as 61-08-24a).
My dear Dr Mueller,
I received a letter from Dr. J. Hooker by the last mail with a Prospectus of a Flora
of Australia to be published at the expense of the Colonial Governments of Australia.
In having an interview with Mr Cowper
on the subject he informed me that the Executive Council had agreed to give £50 annually
for seven years I hope therefore you will get your Government of Victoria to give
similar assistance and then the work will no doubt be soon commenced.
