,, vol. 8 (1861), p. 516. The letter may have been written to Ramel and forwarded by
him to the Society. It is dated to July as the latest date that it could have been
sent to be reported at the meeting of 26 September 1861, the same meeting at which
the extract from M to P. Ramel, 25 July 1861 (in this edition as 61-07-25b) was read.
[The President made known various communications relating to the subscription for the
statue of Daubenton,
among which he drew attention to a letter from the Secretary-General of the Society
for the Protection of Animals …, announcing the decision that this Society wished
to contribute to this tribute of public recognition;
a letter by which Mr Drouyn de Lhuys transmits the decision of the General Council
of the Department of Aisne, which, on the proposal of Mr Georges, Rapporteur of the
Commission of Agriculture and Commerce, has voted an important allocation;
letters and printed circulars bearing witness to the commendable efforts of Mr Saint-Amour
in the Departments of the Nord and Pas-de-Calais, and a letter from Mr Jomard and
another from Mr Mueller, written from Melbourne and forwarded by M. Ramel.]

First director of the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, who died in 1799. The
statue, which includes a Merino sheep reflecting Daubenton’s importance to the French
wool industry, was unveiled in the garden of the Society on13 November 1864.
