Melbourne bot & zool Garden,
27. May 1861
Sir
In reply to your memorandum of 25 instant

See annotation on M to J. Brooke, 21 May 1861.
I beg to inform you, that this season very much less of the will be available than last year, when I believe four pounds Sterling was paid for the priviledge of cutting this herb. If the patches of clover are allowed to be cut an amount of several pounds Sterling could be raised. But it appears to me preferable to permit the clover to disseminate itself, which measure could be best carried out by not accepting any small payment to be realized from permission to cut the herbage in general. This will also have the advantage to withdraw and transfer the concession in case of need. The decrease of the owes to its being cut last year. A methodical moeing of it this year will almost extirpate this troublesome weed from the reserve.
I have the honor to be
Sir
your most obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller
