Letter not found. The text given here is from Bulletin de la Société Impériale Zoologique d'Acclimatation , vol. 8 (1861), p. 424. The letter is dated to May as the latest likely date that it could have been sent in time for Ramel’s communication to be announced at the meeting of the Society held on 20 July.
[M. P. Ramel adresse à M. le Président communication d'une lettre qu'il a reçue de M. Ferd. Mueller (de Melbourne), par laquelle notre honorable confrère lui annonce qu'il vient d'expédier à la Société une paire d'Aigies d'Australie, non point, dit-il, dans le but que poursuit la Société, mais seulement pour l'ornement de la ménagerie. M. Mueller ajoute qu'il s'occupe de recueillir les qui lui ont été demandés par M. Ramel; que le défaut de place sur les derniers navires l'a seul empêché d'envoyer une paire de Casoars, et qu'il espère toujours nous adresser l'an prochain l'Oiseau lyre vivant.]
[Mr P. Ramel communicates to the President a letter that he has received from Mr Ferd. Mueller (of Melbourne), by which our honorable colleague informs him that he has just sent a pair of Australian Eagles to the Society, not, he said, for the purpose pursued by the Society,

but only for the adornment of the menagerie. Mr Mueller adds that he is busy collecting the that Mr Ramel requested; that only the lack of space on the last ships prevented him from sending a pair of Cassowaries;
