Report.—
I have already explained in former reports the cause of this expenditure, viz;— That no provision having been made either for the supply of forage to the camels or for rations to the Indian employed to attend on them and from my being requested by C. W. Ligar Esqr. Sur. General to pay some attention to the camels I made this outlay in order to their preservation

The Under Secretary, J. Moore, minuted on 2 February 1861: 'Before passing this account perhaps the Surveyor General will inform me whether there are any other accounts due for the same service. The enclosed claim should be separated as it extends over portions of the two years'. The Surveyor General replied on 6 February: 'I know of no others except the one for a laborer which was sent in a few days ago The claims are separated accordingly'.
