Sir
I have the honor to inform you, that at a meeting of the zoological committee held
this day, I was instructed to express to you the full concurrence of the Committee
in the reasons given in my letter dated 12. inst,
why the permanent standing of the booth of the Caledonian Society at the northern
reserve of this establishment could not be approved of by the Committee.

The minutes of the meeting of the Committee of Management of the Zoological Garden
held on 14 December 1860 record: 'The meeting on being informed of an application
having been made by the Caledonian Society for permission to leave the booth, erected
for the games, permanently standing at the northern ground, instructed Dr Mueller
to inform Undersectretary Moore, that they fully concurred in the reasons already
explained, that such arrangement was highly undesirable' (VPRS 2223/P, Public Record
