I have the honor to solicit, that you will be pleased to place on the supplementary
estimates for 1860 the following sums, required for the service of the bot. & zoologic
Garden, the amounts voted for the same purpose by Parliament having proved notwithstanding
the strictest economy inadequate for the increased transactions of my establishment.

, required for defraying small items for freight, repairs &c in November and December

, required for defraying outlays (exclusive of personal expenses) on a contemplated
journey to the hitherto unexplored South Western part of the Australian Alps.

I have further the honor of submitting for your approval an application to the honorable
the treasurer, that the above sums might be advanced out of the vote available for
such purposes in the treasury, until voted by Parliament.

Heales referred M's letter to the Treasurer on 11 December 1860. The Under Treasurer,
E. Symonds, replied on 18 January 1861: 'Supplementary Estimates including the within
having been passed the papers are now returned to the Honorable the Chief Secretary'.
