See also minutes of the meeting of the committee administering the zoological gardens, 17 November 1860, held to consider Abercrombie's letter to the Governor concerning the introduction of salmon into Victoria (unit 2, VPRS 2223, Public Record Office, Victoria).
Moved by Hugh Chambers Esq
Seconded by Aug. M'Millan Esq.
"Dr Mueller is requested to reply to the communication from his Excellency, that the Committee would consider it more expedient to offer a reward likely to induce many simultaneous efforts in various quarters for the successful introduction of salmon, than to depend on engagements of any individual exclusively employed for the purpose, and they therefore prefer to urge upon the Government the placing of an adequate sum on the supplemental estimates and trust his Excellency will support the Committee in recommending the subject to the Ministry"
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller.
