MS written by Carl Wilhelmi and signed by M.
5 November 1860
Sir
I have the honor to inform you, that the Committee of the zoological Garden has instructed
me to bring under your favorable notice, the annexed shedule of estimates, deemed
by the Gentlemen as desirable as a seperate fund for the proposed zoological department.
This sum includes not the special item required for the introduction of Vicunas and
pure Alpacas through Mr Charles Ledger, should such meet with your Honors approval.
I beg leave to suggest, that certain reductions of the expenditure of the botanic
Garden might be effected in favor of the new establishment without interfering with
the efficiency of the botanical Garden.
I have the honor of submitting therefore a new shedule of estimates for the latter,
the conjoined sum of both certainly exceeding considerably the amalgamated fund of
the botanic and zoologic Garden as proposed in June last for 1861,
this increase of expenditure owing to the necessity of creating a new office and
by the proposed wider extension of the zoological establishment.

M to W. Nicholson, 30 June 1860.
I have the honor to be
Sir
your most obedient & humble servant
Ferd. Mueller.
The Honorable the Chief Secretary.

On 27 June 1863 Under Secretary W. Odgers noted that M's letter had been 'recd from
Mr Moore on Mr O'S retiremt'. The 'Mr Moore' was presumably the former Under Secretary,
J. Moore, and 'Mr O'S', J. O'Shanassy.
