Department of Lands & Survey
Melbourne, 4th. July, 1860.
Sir,
I am directed by the Honorable The Commissioner of Lands & Survey to bring under your
notice the desirableness of appending, where practicable, the English names of Shrubs
&c in the Botanical Gardens, in addition to the classical designation usually supplied
upon the labels used for the purpose.
Mr Service desires me also to suggest that placards might with advantage be placed
in suitable positions, cautioning Visitors not to molest or interfere with the animals.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedt. Servant
C. Hodgkinson
Dy. S. General
& Secretary
