Dear Sir,

With reference to the now-forming exploring party,

The expedition of which Robert O'Hara Burke was appointed leader on 30 June 1860, and which became known as the Burke and Wills Exploring Expedition, 1860-1.

I am very desirous of accompanying it, and should esteem it a favor if you would advise me as to my course. I can recommend myself as a first-rate zoological artist, & can sketch well, & was when at home familiar with practical botany.

You are probably acquainted with my brother Dr Fox of Kew,

H. T. Fox was a surgeon in Kew, Victoria.

& will, I hope pardon my addressing you without further introduction.
