Dear Sir,
With reference to the now-forming exploring party,
I am very desirous of accompanying it, and should esteem it a favor if you would
advise me as to my course. I can recommend myself as a first-rate zoological artist,
& can sketch well, & was when at home familiar with practical botany.

The expedition of which Robert O'Hara Burke was appointed leader on 30 June 1860,
and which became known as the Burke and Wills Exploring Expedition, 1860-1.
You are probably acquainted with my brother Dr Fox of Kew,
& will, I hope pardon my addressing you without further introduction.
